Hey all, this is the method I came up with to encase neodymium magnets in epoxy. This is handy for making mount-on-glass frag plugs, pump cord clips, algae feeders, etc.

1. Clean your magnets and cut a piece of epoxy putty.

2. Stick on a few balls of mixed epoxy putty to act as spacers for the mold. Flatten to desired size.

3. Measure your epoxy. I like this product since it has a LONG cure time. There are pigment powders to add color. I left mine clear, to monitor for leaks/corrosion.

4. Place magnets in a silicon mold. Mold can be found on Amazon and baking supply shops. These are “soap” molds. I did this on a metal surface which holds the magnets well.

5. Pour in the well mixed epoxy and tilt the magnets to allow air bubbles to escape. Cover to avoid dust for 24 hours.

5. Take out of mold and voila!

6. Cut/grind/sand to desired shape and surface finish.

7. Glue on your preferred accessory.

How do you cut it without the magnet getting stuck to the bandsaw?

The saw I use has an aluminum table so it doesn’t stick. I could see using a paper or wood spacer to cut the parts while reducing the magnetic forces if it is attracted to to saw table.

So I assume that bottle of yellowish liquid is one of the extra pics?

That yellow fluid is an accident photo...oops.
It’s actually about 5 years worth of diy vanadium supplement.
