Encrusting soft corals

I’m drawing a blank - are there any encrusting soft corals besides zoas, GSP, and sympodium?

I feel like if we count Xenia as encrusting, we can probably put mushrooms and Kenya trees in there as well.

I feel like softies can’t really be put into the term “encrusting” as they don’t form a skeleton “crust”, as even gsps is just flesh covering the rocks.

Maybe carpeting? In which case, most softies bar things like toadstools and leathers can be carpeting

I agree completely. I was just using the same logic used for zoas though. They carpet over whatever hard surface. And carpeting is a much better term for softies.

blue ridge coral

A blue ridge is an old school coral you don't see around much today. This coral acts just like an sps encruster, it will base out across the rock like in the first pic, then grow fingers upwards like in the second pic. It is a soft coral, the only one soft coral that builds a hard skeleton. If you break the skeleton, the inside is blue from the iron it consumes from the water. Its the only one in its family type, its unique. The only downside is that its not very colourful.
