I've got my 120 gallon display upstairs running AWC,2 gallons per day. I've got a 29 gallon tank downstairs that I would like to drain the waste water into. I want to basically set up an AWC for the 29 but without buying several more hydros sensors and pumps.
I have a few ideas but maybe someone has a simpler method
Idea1. Turn off basement ATO during the upstairs AWC and have a mini pump drop 2 gallons before the upstairs refills it. But this method might mess with salinity because of variables in water level.
Idea 2. Drill an overflow hole. So still turn off ATO in the basement tank, any extra water pumped in, will overflow into a larger container and that can be pumped out when needed.

I think idea 2 is safer as long as I get the overflow at the right height.

If anyone can think of an easier or more efficient way, let me know!

Howdy,

I would have separate AWC systems. I like redundancy. It does cost more, short cuts will bite you in the A@@ when you least expect it.

Can you draw up a diagram.

I'll try and get pictures and draw it up. I agree it's not worth flooding or salinity waves
