I guess I've finally arrived. To my objections, and kicking and screaming like a two year old spoiled brat, my wife bought me a cell phone.....my very first. And now insists I take it with me. I'm not a happy camper.

The younger crowd can't understand this, considering they were born with their umbilical cord attached to a cell phone.....and now couldn't live without one. Our good friend's grandchild, at two years old, has her own cell phone! I don't get it. I'm now retired, but have to believe entrenchment of these insidious electronic devices have impacted productivity. It seems like the younger crowd is constantly on their phones doing, I don't know what......maybe checking the R2R site. In my day, this wouldn't be allowed during working hours. In one company, we were not allowed to use our phones (land-line, pre cell phone) to call our spouse. If we needed to call them, it had to be done during a break or lunch, and we had to use the pay phone in the lobby.

I don't like phones! I usually don't answer our land-line when it rings. And never had an interest in a cell phone. But now I have one! Here I am 21st Century! Please, don't call me, I'll call you.

I have to admit I'd be lost without mine lol. I don't talk on it much but with how often I'm traveling to U of M for cancer stuff I've been thankful when we broke down after chemo at 10pm. Beat walking to get help and I can stay in touch with family while there they encourage you to use cells to stay in touch. I can be on here or whatever while at drs waiting ect. We don't have a computer so it's our way of being online for whatever.

I certainly understand the safety aspect.....but being on line with that small screen????

I have this Motorola something or other with 4G....whatever that means....but I know I have computer access.

I don't know how to use it, but that thing only has a 2 1/4 by 4 inch screen. Sorry, I'll stick with this 17 inch monitor on my computer.

Mines slightly larger it's 5.7" but works after getting used to it lol. Wife has a 10.1" tablet that runs off of her phones hotspot. I'll bet after awhile you'll get adjusted and use it more while out to Google or whatever and maps is awesome for travel.

I admit I was resistant when smart phones first came out. I didn't really think I would use it enough to justify the cost. Now I don't know how I ever functioned without it. Then when tablets came out it was the same. I thought why could I possibly need that when I have my cell. I thought I would never use it. Now, again I don't know how I functioned without it. I think once you get used to it you'll find it more useful than you think.

My grandmother is 87 and has a kindle fire HD. She knows loves it and uses it all the time. Heck, she even has a Facebook profile and uses it. While it may seem the younger generations are overly attached to the mobile devices, I find that the older generations become even more attached as it opens up possibilities of connecting with long lost friends and just keeping up with family. That's what my parents(they are in their 60s) use their mobile devices for.

I'm self-employed and my cell phone is my lifeline for business, personal, everything. There is one downside though, and that is the fact that it's my lifeline for business, personal, everything, so there is no downtime!!! "Just turn the thing off" is easier said than done. If you don't believe me, ask my wife.
