So... I have just spent 4 good hours reading through this thread as I'm also correctly in the early phase of setting up my (new to me) 75g bowfront with Fx4 into a reef tank. I've learned a lot, was confused a bit and often had no idea what was actually being talked about.

Key takeaway, even though my 75 is also tempered on 5 sides, HOB protein skimmers are a thing.. I had no idea. Going to have to do some research here.. thanks all.
Key#2, I think my tank is over filled w fish

Key#3 I need better friend. Y'all send each other cool ****. My friends are done hearing about my tank.

@sfin52 I'll be looking to source a pair of clowns in the next 2-3 months. May I send you a dm?
Send away. Keep old friends add reefing friends. The old friends will keep you grounded.
Hob overflow lifereef is the only hob overflow i would use if I ever go that route.
Welcome to the build.

Welcome to my thread! We're glad you're here! It doesn't move as fast as some of the others' in this group, but it'll move lol. The amount of knowledge that these folks have is amazing! I wouldn't be where I am in reefing if it wasn't for these wonderful people. Feel free to post pics and questions here. Do you have a build thread started? I'd love to follow along with your progress!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I do feel a bit creepy after reading 87 pages of y'all's conversation and feeling like I've gotten to know a thing about a lot of you, and yall know nothing of me so I suppose an into is in order.

My name if Terry, I like spam. I really enjoy jacking peoples threads in absurd (but usually humerus) ways.

New to salt but not to fish specifically. My best friends wife bought him a tank 5 years ago from a Craigslist ad that I helped him get set up. 75g bowfront, that had a cheap hob filter. We added 60 lbs of LR in the tank He never really geeked out on it. Fast forward and he moves into a new house with floor ceiling windows and nowhere for the tank.i took it over.
First pic was it then.
Tear down clean out, saved a bit of sand but tossed most. Bought the fluval fx4 on it at a buddy's recommendation. I've added a few fish after removing the hateful clown that "owned" the reef and redone the aquascape at least 4 times and here it is now. I've bought 2 reef led 90's and am currently waiting out a nitrate spike that I think was caused by moving the rocks around so many times. Hopefully it levels fast, that wwc sale was rough on my wallet.. I'm planning for this to be lps/euphillia based. I don't have a build thread as it's pretty much already set up. Would be more of a, starting stocking of coral thread.
Cheese the tang says hi!

Erin any picture of a wrasse is a good one. Speedy looking for you to help build confidence. It will come and you to will be best friends. I can see it in her face expressions
Wrasses are just like puppies beg rub on you and will follow your hand around in the tank. My leapord is always begging me to move rocks. The solar always nudges my hand.

More like he found us. We decided he's a keeper. With the phrase you smell nice.
But seriously @Lost in the Sauce you need a build thread. If for nothing else a shinny new badge
New badge. I can't introduce a new badge, at a time like this! I like my old badge, will they fight? Can they Breed?? Eeekk

Welcome to the build.
As I'm in Southern California, where our power gets shut off literally one day a month average and multiple days in a row for winds and fire, I am extremely reluctant to run a hob overflow. Was hoping to find a hob skimmer unit that removed the chance of a siohon loss leading to a very soggy floor situation.

I have a reef octopus hang on skimmer that works well. No leaks unless I forget to empty the collection cup.

The reef octopus makes a great one. I use the classic 1000
