Hello everyone!
I am new to Arizona but not to the reefing Hobby. I recently moved to Mesa in order to attend ASU Polytech and left my reef back home in New Jersey under my parents' care. After a few months without a tank I finally caved and have plans to purchase a biocube tomorrow (Monday, Nov 13) to set up as a school tank.

Below I have attached a few pictures of my home system, a 90G DT with a 65G remote sump and 34G remote refugium. My 90G has been up for 3 years as of september of this year. I'm hoping to register as a member and attend a few events around here. Very sad that I missed the frag auction a few days ago, from skimming that thread it looks like a very good time.

If anyone has some rock lying around I would be interested in taking it off your hands, and I'm also on the hunt for a light eventually as well as a skimmer that will fir into a biocube.

Not super sure on what I want to do with the cube' but I'm thinking a macro and softy tank with a mantis shrimp or other inverts as the inhabitants. Maybe a goby/pistol shrimp combo? not sure yet.

My 90G when I left for school (circa 4 moths ago)

Hollywood (?) stunner chalice that I got as a dime sized piece in a trade. Grew to this size in about 4-5 months.

Recent photo of the tank sent to me by my parents. I'm going to have to dome serious trimming when I'm back for break!

Very excited to get reefing again!

Welcome, you are in a good part of town as most of the LFS are east valley around here. These Arizona forums are the most active but the main R2R forums are great and most of the AZ facebook pages are good resources as well.

For rock I know Chris as Discount Aqarium in Tempe had a large selection when we were there Friday for the frag swap.

Also, the local group does meeting basically every month, next one is in December for the Holiday party and should be a lot of fun, plus it is in Mesa.

So I actually ended up purchasing this little fluval spec V as a fully set up reef and am shelving the BC Project for now. No huge plans for this tank except swapping the clown for a yasha goby and pistol shrimp pair and adding some SPS and other coral. Looks great already IMO.

Awesome, Definitely!

Mine isn't near as cool as yours, lol. All of my corals are still frags. I'd barley consider the frogspawn a rag though, it's huge.

Here are close ups of all the coral, I have quite a variety, lol.

My acan got bumped around in transit and is still recovering. Fingers crossed!!!

This little mushroom is a stinker!!! Ever since I got him he's let go of EVERYTHING I put him on, even when I reef glue him down! (Hence all the glue spots on the wall rock, lol.) so I'm trying to get him to attach to this base of a drag plug I have and this is how my lfs said to do it.

Then this one is super cool. It's a green sinaria coral. Lfs found it under their drag rack and gave it to me for free. It's very tiny but seems to be in good condition.

Here's the fish I have. A firefish and a (Pygmy) dwarf pygmy angelfish. He's a hybrid and will be ok in a 10g[emoji28]

I also have a brittle star but I can never snap a pic of him. Then for cuc is a Mexican turbo snail, 2 astrea snails, 2 blue legged hermits and a red legged. They also have plenty to munch on. I need to invest in a better clear tank lid though, it has a dark line in the middle of it where it bends and blocks light in my prime real estate areas. Also sorry for the super long post, lol. I'm very proud of this baby tank.

Heck yeah dude. I love seeing other people keep reefs at college. Everyone that sees mine is always so intrigued. Your tank looks great, and I really like the angel. Be careful with him though, they do sometimes nip at certain coral, especially acans and other lps.

He does nip at the gsp, sometimes the acan, but it's more like he's eating the detritus off of it.

I’m currently a sophomore in college and have always wanted to set up a reef here but since I have to fly home for breaks I would have no way to maintain the tank for the whole year. That tank you picked up does look good already, I think the yasha goby with pistol shrimp would do great in that tank and it’s small enough where you could actually appreciate them.

Back home in my 70 gallon I have a white cap goby and pistol shrimp pair that I see once a month which is sad because they are such cool fish

I've got a 6 hour flight between school and home. I'm planning on adding an ATO with a huge reservoir and taking my fish home with me then leaving the tank to fend for itself over breaks.

Over the summer I plan to board the tank at a LFS nearby.

If you want to do it, do it. There's always a solution!

Left the heater unplugged for 24 hours and the tank has been unhappy due to that. This was last week, so it's finally starting to get better again. Here's a pic of my frogspawn, which seems to have bleached somewhat due to the event.

(Taken mid WC, thus everything floating around and the GSP angry)
