I currently have an odyssea 75gph skimmer with a 225gph pump. I would like to upgrade for my 80 gallon reef, but I am working on a bit of a budget at this time. I am watching this one used on ebay:

ETSS REEF DEVIL PROTIEN SKIMMER

It comes with a 700gph pump and bio balls. Any comments or advice?

I had one of the first one ever made, great skimmer, but it needs a lot of attention to keep it foaming well. Keep it clean and you should be fine. If I remember right they also recommended a Rio 3100 for the pump (900gph).

Downdraft skimmers are great.... Some of the best available, but they take a lot of space and require an energy hungry pump.

Looks like the footprint is too big for my sump. How difficult is it to plumb it as an external unit?
