Has ever been a case where a reefer was affected by laser trying to kill aiptasia ...just wondering even with wearing protective glasses ...is it foolproof?
Thx

This is a significant safety concern, IMO. If you were to be waving around lasers stronger than a laser pointer, you would need laser safety training at most any company or university.

That said, I have not personally heard of a problem with reefers using them.

I've worked with lasers most of my life and seeing people blasting aiptasia in a tank with a laser they are just holding in their hands with the laser backscattering everywhere is scary.

In my professional opinion, it's best to not even go there. It only take a small fraction of a second for a laser to cause injury.

Having at one point in my days worked with some really powerful lasers, I don't care for the use of lasers in reefing and I'll throw UV units in here too. "Safe" or not, there's no reason to expose anyone - including your family and fur pets that may have no idea what you're doing - to unnecessary risk. Just my $0.02.

EDIT: @CBonito beat me to it!

^This!

Thx all. My tank is in my basement where others don't come over ... Just me. Wonder if it's ok to have a laser day for blasting those aiptasia like approx once a month! This is a battle that's never ending .

I've used the laser gun, once my friend lent to me years ago... Boy what a delight burning those critters! I targeted them at an angle sideways all flow turned off.

Are those safety glasses still effective with reflected laser? is there a more effective glass with higher rating I can buy for extra eye protection?
