Explain Self "destruct mode" to me




so... in every movie the star ships have a self destruct mode.

So from my comprehension we advance ourselves in a method of transportation that we feel is soooo fast that it requires a mode to self destruct it.

so Why didnt the ford model T have one? or trains? or planes!?

IMO it has to do with the starship or whatever being used for a military purpose. Normally it has military secrets or the starship itself has special weapons or cargo onboard. dunno that is the way I always looked at it.

Agreed...I've always taken it as they wouldn't want the ship/plane/whatever to fall into the wrong hands. Kinda like the US stealth drone they recovered in Iran (granted its real)
