You can do it by splicing in additional wire , just remember to cut it well away from any exposure to moisture.

As for the precision, I did not notice any difference.

As for Inkbird in general, other issues drove me away from them but the probe extension did work for me.

These pictures are from when I replaced my probe but the principle is the same.
