Fairy wrasse growth rate

I have a ruby-faced fairy wrasse and it’s growing but no more/less than my other fish. I feed it pellets and mysis shrimp. I think the max size for mine is 6”. But there are many different kinds of fairy wrasses. Hopefully others will chime in.

My Labouti grew from about 3.25 to 4.0 inches in 4 months. He is the biggest wrasse in the tank and always get his share of the food. Max size of a Labouti is about 5 inches, per fishbase.org

one thing that makes a huge difference on the growth and alpha male transition is other wrasses in the tank. I had a dominant rubrimargin wrass that was a bit aggressive on most of my wrasses.
many of the wrasses never transitioned to male and growth was rather slow. it dies few months backa nd the progression to male for lineatus, flame, magma exquisit... and growth is ongoing full speed.

They can get to 80% of their full size in 3-4 years. Then they tend to stop. I have not had many fish in captivity get to their fishbase max length and they all stay about 20% short.

This is good to know, and needed information for me so I can plan better. I have always plan for my fish to me smaller than max size as per Fishbase.org. Will change my thinking regarding wrasses.
I have found they get bigger and get growths on the tip of their mouths and a little arch in their back. I attribute this to the fact that there is probably huge predatory pressure on males as they are great at getting attention, from females, rivals, and predators. In aquaria the predatory pressure is removed.
