I woke up to go to work and I was checking on the tank and my fairy wrasse was laying on the sand. Im super concerned he never sleeps here he has a cave he always sleeps in. All my fish are quarantined and he was purchased from TSM aquatics fully quarantine. I will say hes quite big so maybe hes getting old? I would say his breathing seemed light. All other fish acting normal i had to leave for work unfortunately. Im guessing I'll come back to a dead fish.

I can’t see anything of note in the photo. A clear video might tell us more.

I doubt it is old age, that sneaks up over time, not acutely like this.

Could it have been startled by lights and ran itself into something in the tank?

Possibly but I have my lights on a schedule that ramps up and down slowly. The tank is in my bedroom and I went to bed before my girlfriend so im not sure if she turned the room lights on at night or when i was sleeping. I didnt have time to test anything unfortunately I did test nitrate phoshate and alk last night but that wouldn't be causing this.

If I come back and he is dead I think I will be done with wrasses. My last flasher wrasse got UNWD during quarantine. Ive only had this fairy for about a month.

This isnt unwnd likely but startle makes sense as does stress from sudden light, another fish or even a bristleworm in its typical hiding area

Is there chance hes ok i mean my room and tank were pitch black when I took this picture. I would say very light and normal breathing and he was totally fine yesterday. I will say after I took the Pic he moved about 1foot in the tank but was still laying in the sand by a rock. Maybe hes in deep sleep idk? I'll update this thread when I get home at 3pm

Please provide video when you get a chance and leaving lights low and adding an air stone will help a little

i just got a Flasher wrasse and he does the same thing, i kept him in an acclimation box for 2 days and he laid down like this when lights were off or ramping up and down.
I dont think there would be a concern if when lights are back on if he swims around again.

Hopefully this is it. My girlfriend said she just looked for him and couldn't see him so hes probably back in the rocks.
