Fallow period

I may get a lot of heat for this. Just set up a new 400 gallon aquarium. Purchased some fish. I did not have a quarantine set up... i'm sure you guys know where I'm going with this. Everything was going great for months then. I decided to add a large emperor angel, which, according to the LFS was already quarantined and treated with copper. It was placed in my aquarium. And within two weeks developed a terrible case of Ick. I started a quarantine tank and placed them in. But I believe it was too late, and it ended up passing. Long story short now daily another fish is developing Ick. I do like my inverts so I can't treat the main tank with copper. I do have several shrimp, starfish, lots of snails and crabs. I think I'm going to remove all the fish including the ones not showing any signs of ick and moving them all into the quarantine tank. And treating them as a group.

The tank is in the middle of my house and A long fallow period would be sad.

Any good invert, recommendations? Or anything else? I can put in my tank to continue to have interest while I wait for these d*** parasites to die out?

Any active large inverts?


This is probably a stupid question. But what about live coral shrimp from a Chinese grocery store? (Those are large and about 20 dollars a pound!) Never bought fish by weight before.

Looks like a great system!

Sorry about your fish losses, but if you're inside a fallow period for fish parasites it's best not to interrupt that time by adding anything, including inverts. Here's a thread with more info on that:

I had a similar experience. After a ton of research I decided to go the management route instead of eradication. I installed a UV sterilizer and haven't had a problem since.
