Fascinating or just coincidence?

Yesterday something happened on my newbie tank that I found fascinating. Or it's maybe just a coincidence.
A few months ago, I fragged my GSP. So I ended up with rocks A and B on opposite sides of the tank. gSP was ***off for a couple weeks but then came fully extended again on both rocks and back to it's aggresive growth. Yesterday, I fragged rock B again, but left A one untouched. I once again ended up with B & C (the new frag) ***off and completely closed. But to my surprise, rock A, which I didn't touch at all, closed up completely as well as soon as I reintroduced the other 2 rocks in the tank. I thought it was fascinating. Maybe they sense/communicate colony stress with some chemical?

Did you glue/cement the new frag? Or just stick your arm in?

Just dropped it in the sand. Didn't glue it.

Good observation. We know that acacia trees do just that, so it's no leap to suspect that coral could do it as well.

Lol. Now I want to wait until they open up again and repeat procedure while taking video of the untouched piece!

Acacias? Really? Now I need to go read up on it!!
