Faulty readings on my new heater controller

So earlier today something weird started happening where my heater controller started displaying ridiculous temperatures that were completely fake such as the absolute absurdity of it displaying 80 degrees Celsius which does not make sense at all because if it was really that hot it would probably mean the aquarium is on fire at that point and the glass would be melting and if any fish were in there they would be literally cooked alive luckily my backup thermometer clearly shows the real temperature is about 26 degrees Celsius which is much more reasonable.

I only bought said heater controller for my titanium heaters a few months ago and already it's having issues .

Has anybody else encountered weird glitches like this before?

No... a unreliable heater is a ticking time bomb.

Please replace it, and stop trying to debug it, unless you have nothing in the tank you won't worry about if it does boil over.

For me, once a heater starts acting up, i replace them. I don't debug them, because once you start debuging, its a endless cycle of debugging from what i realized.

Its just not worth a 40 dollar temperature controller vs several thousands in fish / coral.

Has anybody else encountered weird glitches like this before?

I had an AquaMedic Biotherm thermostat (legacy product) that went haywire like that. This noted, I do still have another unit of that model that has been solid, though it is on my premix SW vat so I don't care if it glitches.

There are random anecdotal failures on any electronic reef gizmo; I do not know if there is a pattern of failures with this brand/model or not.

I am going to contact the aquarium store I bought it from get a replacement heater controller alternatively I may have to replace my two titanium heaters or at least one of them because I have some backup heaters thankfully and as my tank is currently empty and I have yet to cycle it I am not at all worried

That could be your thermocouple, maybe has a broken or loose wire.

You could try moving it around and see if it corrects itself at a certain point.

I just had to replace mine the other day because of this.

I just got in contact with the store I bought it from and they are going to contact the manufacturer aquamedic about this and yes I tried moving it around which did not fix it

Just return it and purchase a commercial control product like a Ranco ETC controller. Skip the aquarium junk.

It sucks I spent about 100 dollars on the heater controller and yet it still failed but there might a better option to power my titanium heaters maybe I can get a refund so I can buy a different one

There is a better option, it is a a Ranco ETC controller. Used in industrial automation and control and just about every commercial refrigeration device you can find. Get a refund or throw that crap in the bin, $100 lesson learned. I would NOT replace it with the some thing even if they give it to you for free. Sell it or give it away.
