Favia ID

[Among The Reef]

Hey guys,

Need a little help on the ID of this Favia (actually Favites). My supplier attached someone's name to it, but I'm a little skeptical.

Regardless, it's a nice and big colony. Maybe you guys can help me- I'm definitely not a favia expert!

Don't know if it has a "name" or not, I have seen a few like this that are all named different things but either way very nice looking coral!

Thank you! I'm honestly not big on the whole name thing. With that said when I have people asking me if it's this or that, I should be able to say yes or no!

Well, it's actually a favites (not favia).

Probably Favites pentagona
But Favites acuticollis is also a possibility.

Thank you Hunter, you are definitely right. I should have known better!

I believe it came out of Indonesia, so either could potentially work. It seems more likely to be Favites pentagona
