I just put a 2 inch gold maxima clam in my tank. I have many articles that say you should target feed small clams. I also just read an article in advanced aquarist that says target feeding clams is a myth.

Can anyone with clams give me some imput?

I don't know a whole lot about them and getting into the clam side. From what I have read is anything under a certain size needs target feedings. Has something to do photosynthesis. I know the more savvy guys will chime in. My clam is about 9" so I don't target fees but I do throw some DTs in from time to time.

I wouldn't feed it.. they talk about smaller (under 2") needing it, but if it were me I'd just plop it in there and keep an eye on it..

Thanks!

Mr. Saltwater Tank also says photosynthetic clams do not need feeding, and I tend to believe him.
Thanks Eienna that is what I am leaning toward.

Thanks sounds like a good plan.

Thanks. I have really been fascinated by this clam. The last couple of days I have spent a lot of time watching it. It might replace my scolys as my tank fav.

i think the wife feeds the tank every other day...?!.... Not sure. I'm usually working. Oyster feast... DTs... And rods.. Can't remember what else. No target tho. This is an ultra blue. I love the way the coloration differs from looking through the glass as opposed to through the top!

I have seen clams change colors slightly due to lighting and water params.
Thanks!

Nice clam! I am using rods too. Good to know. I just looked at the difference from glass and looking down. Amazing!
