So sat thinking about my tank I keep p04 around 0.1 as tank is only 10 months old and just wondering what peoples thoughts are on feeding corals !
If I feed reefroids my lps love it but sky rockets p04 and think it maybe the cause of two rtn/stn outbreaks ! so can you get away with not using additives and just feed the fish and dosing trace alk cal mag !

Just to add to that it because I’ve seen stn/rtn in a few acros only change to the tank was to move a wavemaker and feed the tank

You can get away with just feeding the fish in my experience. You could also up your water changes and feed the corals or Just feed them periodically.

I don’t feed reef roids bc I don’t think it helps sps much. I feed some frozen cyclops for my pipefish and frozen mysis for my fish and that’s basically it. I use to feed oyster feast and aminos but all it did was feed some gha.

Get rid of your gfo/rowaphos if you want the stn/rtn episodes to stop. You can thank me later. Happy Christmas!!!

I just feed the fish, but there are some rotifers and cyclops mixed in for small mouths so the corals get some of it.
My biggest success has been since keeping NO3 and PO4 above near zero levels.

What's your NO3 @ ?

My one STN event was caused by me allowing Alk to quickly rise and then trying to lower it too fast.

I think reef roids is really good (apart from the phosphate it may add).
I have fed my "fluffier" SPS roids and they love it.
Stylos, Birdsnests, Digi's, etc

I would maybe try carbon dosing.
I have used Brightwell's Biofuel which I liked.
But I think tropic marins carbon dosing products are really good.
I would go with that. It will also help the corals take it some of those nutrients.

But 0.1 is not bad.
I think that is fine and shouldn't cause serious issues.
pH is definitely more crucial when it comes to SPS

As far as feeding.
I use Brightwell Aminos a couple times a week (I really like them)

Also I like Seachem's Phytoplankton. I refrigerate it to make it last longer, but it'll last you a while and literally every coral LOVES it. If you spot feed it you will see instant reactions. Zoas absolutely love this stuff. I just use the recommended amount and put it in a small cup and dilute it a bit with tank water that way I can spot feed more of it.

I feed my 15 fish in my 120 and they feed the corals. I feed heavy at 8+ cubes and a small amount of pellets daily.
No3 <5 po4<.1. I use small amonut of gfo, phosgaurd, and carbon in a reactor.
I have 30g remote fuge up for 2 months now and I have reduced po4 media by 1/2. Plus I used to change media every 3-4 days and now every 2+ weeks. I will be removing the po4 media soon and see what my fuge will keep levels at.

Run triton method so only carbon and refugium but literally watched a stag horn die over night after feeding roids so wondering if the raise in p04 was the effect of it as the only thing apart from moving a wavemaker that has changed

Unfortunately, we are so far from understanding all that is needed to keep critters in our SW tanks.
Can't see a rise in PO4 cause an issue overnight which would only affect 1 coral, at least not in most cases.

What additives are you using that you mentioned?
