so i'm not new to the aquarium hobby. i've got a well established 220 gallon reef tank with an emperor angel, mimic tang, arc eyed hawk, fox face, purple tang that's well over 20 years old, some pajama cardinals and tons of live rock, nook, caves, corals etc....
well my female clownfish was a bonded pair with my male snowflake. the female was over 10 years old and the snowflake clown was probably around 6 yrs old.
the female passed away and a few days later i got a juvenile oscellaris clownfish, same as snowflake obviously (meaning i'm not putting a Clarkie or another type etc..).
the established snowflake male and juvenile didn't fight but the snowflake male would dart at male the first day. no nipping or "fights". 2nd day they both seem settled in anemone.
this lasted about 2 days and the 3rd night i noticed the established snowflake was not eating and breathing a little heavy.
Next morning I found him dead at bottom of the tank.
Did the stress of losing his mate and then me adding a juvenile push his stress level over the edge?
I feel awful. My tank is peaceful no one fights with anyone. Occasionally my emperor grunts but that's about it.
appreciate any feedback. so now it's just the new juvenile living in the anemone alone.
thanks
