Few questions.

I have really gotten the itch for a clam. I have a shallow tank running 250 watt halide so I think I have plenty light. Grow acros on the sand bed. tank is just over a year old!
How do you guys QT clams? I have a QT for coral, but it isn't really mature enough for a clam. Are there any dips that can be used on clams?
I have a sally light foot crab that I am worried about also? He doesn't bother anything now, but you never know. I have a few zoa and a frogspawn in the tank.
Do most all clams like high flow?
Im sure I will have more. I have tried clams in the past, but had no luck. I do not want to take a chance unless my tank is ready, and I can QT some way.

To much flow can keep a clam from fully extending its mantle, indirect flow is best. You need some nutrients in the water. As far as a QT goes if you don't have other clams I would do a good visual inspection for parasitic snails, any unwanted hitchhikers on the shell. Make sure its not under 3", has a good stimulant response to shadows. Even though certain species demand high light I'd still acclimate the clam to your lighting so don't blast the first day in, especially if your going with a deresa or squamosa.

So they aren't known to bring other pest into tank besides the snails and normal hitch hikers? Which would you recommend for first clam? I have room for a few so if one does well I may add another later.

Pest hitchickers are all I know about, I'm not really certain about fish diseases or others. I'd start with a squamosa, hardy and beautiful.

Just let it sit in QT and watch for the development of any unwanted pests. The shells can harbor aiptasia or undesirable algae that you would need to scrub off.

What do you mean that it's not mature enough for a clam? If you can keep corals alive in there, it should be cycled enough for a clam. Clams don't exactly rely on a microfauna population, nor do they produce ammonia (they actually consume small amounts of it), so I would think that your QT tank will support the clam just fine.
