slight background story;
i weaseled back into reefing circa 2022 when i setup a 10g nuvo that i never sold during my relocation(s)... figured i'd give the hobby a shot again at some point, i kept it and waited for a good time.
i quickly bought a used 40g cube within the first 4-6 months of setting up the 10g lol. i still have both of these tanks still running but they are no more than a quarantine at this point.
i started planning for something in the 120g range mid 2024.
so...
fijicube 108g ext was ordered via brs circa november 2024, she showed up january 2025 like this:
rip.
completely shattered back wall. looks like the shipment company dropped the box, no puncture holes by forklift... freight delivery dude super helped me out here and documented the delivery. looking back, i don't know how this would have went if he didn't make calls back to their dispatch.
the overall packaging of this glass... image a loosely screwed together box made of MDF. it's kinda wild. i've never ordered glass like this, so i dunno if this is common, but dang bro.
i called brs- literally no questions asked, they out sent another tank (thanks brs!).
with fingers crossed, it showed up in good condition, this was... mid febuary 2024.
jan-march 2025
as i was picking up parts making adjustments to the space for wiring, i pretty much just kept dreaming how i wanted to maintain this build in the long term. i'll revisit this later.
meanwhile, i glued some rocks together into a shape.
looking at lights, it made the most sense to hang them, because i can, i guess?
i reinforced the rafter with extra 2x4 for a piece of mind. it was mid march when i added the beam and it must have been 120F degrees in the attic, but i can probably hang 80lbs off the each mount if i ever decide to get mental with a canopy.
my neighbor and lfs friend helped me move the glass on top of the stand. it's sitting on .75" white hdpe. i bought two 48" sheets and cut them down to dimension. they cut super easy with a jigsaw, no joke, like butter. i notched the 2nd sheet for the base on the bottom.
march 23rd 2025
did some plumbing. running 1" all the way around and reducing at the return outputs.
i left room for a manifold and a spot to add uv if i ever so decide. everything is unioned together for access. i was really trying to do my best to think ahead here.
april 2nd 2025
tank got wet.
tossed in seed rock and dosed some ammonium chloride. added some MB7 here and there when i remembered.
insta-cycle, basically.
april 20th 2025
transferred everything. i didn't turn on lights until this point. parred the xr30 from the cube and matched up my photon.
hitting 300-325 par across the top of the rocks to start out. i left myself about 10" of vertical headroom for sps, hopefully it's enough.
had a yellow tang, hawkfish and valentini in qt. moved in a tomini, two clowns, 2 chromis and a midas.
they all joined each other, along with all the coral i decided to keep.
june 14th 2025
as the tank is moving along, i am still figuring out hardscape, flow and other nuance of the system.
the transfer itself went almost seamless, exception for one yellow hammer. i start ramping up kalk. keeping a pulse on the kh as i push the dosing... we're coasting @ 8.1-8.25 on the daily swing.
coralline starting to show on the new rock.
july 1st 2025
white shot.
added a bta which was given to me as a gift from a bud, promptly switched to nem guards on the power heads. said i would never get another nem but i couldn't say no.
noticing coralline showing on the bottom glass.
july 23rd
bottom glass almost completely covered in coralline.
nem is doing nem things. everything else is looking decent.
@ 3.6L kalk/day, hitting evap limits, i have a little bit of headroom. lacing in 10ml/day afr to start.

tank ran solo on it's first vacation... my vacation? ...over the past weekend. had a camera setup to take some peeks but it did it's thing.
