I have been recently seeing a film on the surface on my water. My research indicates this is due to either over feeding or feeding poor quality food.

I’m going to go with the former as I have a heavy hand. Any thoughts on how to eliminate this aside from water changes?

It is dissolved organic waste, such as dissolved foods and dissolved fish waste. It is staying on your water surface because of lack of surface agitation.

Need more flow, on the water surface and in the tank. Flow will keep the dissolved organics moving in the water so that the skimmer can pull it out.

Appreciate the info mate. I am in the process of hooking up some new gyres for more water movement.
