hey all. 0/ I was in the hobby back in the mid 90s. I have a 5 year old boy and wanted to put another aquarium together.

I won’t start cycling for a couple weeks but I wanted to bounce this idea off of you all. I really liked the “floating” rockscapes so I purchased this acrylic laptop stand. Is this a bad idea? Lol. Here it is. Nothing has been glued in place yet. I plan on having a sand bottom to cover the base and I’ll put small rock around to cover the stand.

It had little rubber feet. Do you think it’s best to remover and seal the underside with glue or leave them on to get a little movement under the structure?

You may have more success using a large slab of marco shelf rock as the base, then using that to glue/mortar a base too - and then placing that on the glass and covering it with sand.

And it has water. I changed the design last minute based on opinions. Lost the flat shelf and put more Marco rock. Can’t see the laptop stand unless you look at the one angle. It’s still cloudy from agitating the sand

Dude, that is sik!! What an awesome look!
The only thing I coud see happening is algae building up on the plastic...maybe since there is limited light there.

yeah. I think the only angle its viewable from is the side that people wont see unless they walk around but every floating reef ive seen has a angle that the illusion is broken. One thing cool about this is I can just lift the whole thing out and drop it in a bigger tank one day.

this is my planned fish stock list...

First number is the fish count second number is the order they will go in. I will increase the bio load very slowly. That firefish will go in 30 days after the clown and so on with larger stalls for the springers and gudgeons.

I may be more liberal with adding corals (zoas zoas zoas - frogspawns/hammers Maybe 1 torch) My plan is to run the lights at 50% to start (rough par settings below). If things are good I may push it up to 70% slowly if the colors pop.

Starting the ugly but should be mild. Added copepods over the weekend. All the cud is alive still. 2 new fish should go in soon. I think it’s getting ready for sone corals. Nirtrates are 10ppm phos I dunno based on the bad tester. I need a better one. Close to 0 or 0. Water is a little cloudy right now.

Any pictures of your sump setup?
Yup! And a moonlight shot. I haven’t set up the dosing pumps yet but some zoas and a torch are going in on Saturday/sunday. My plan is to do a 7 gallon water change before that happens and then start very light (2ml a day?) dosing triton method.
