Filter socks

Okay so I need a little help I attempted to make filter socks out of polyester felt, which I found a description on how to make them online.the felt seems to be too thick and makes the water overflow over the top of drain pipe and I woke up to a water mess this morning .what material should I use to make the socks for my sump

thanks. thisis the one I used to make them.. maybe I got the wrong felt...
