I'm going to be getting a 46-gallon bow front aquarium and would like to know what the best brand of canister filter is. any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Welcome to the R2R family.

Ideally we like sumps or refuge to help along with the live rock. I do like canister thought too. I use an api filstar but not the greatest. Magnum makes a good one. I heard Marineland Fx4 is also good.

thank you all for your input I believe will be getting a Fluval series 06 306

Although I usually recommend a sump for filtration, I realize there are times that there are reasons not to go that direction. When I do use canister filters I typically select one that is oversized for the tank. Additionally, I have had good luck with Penn Plax Cascade canister filters even though they are less expensive.

what is a sump? I won't be getting anything until at least October

If you can’t use a sump, I found that a hang on the back filter such as aqua clear was much easier to use and clean then a canister filter.
