Welcome to the R2R family.

Ideally we like sumps or refuge to help along with the live rock. I do like canister thought too. I use an api filstar but not the greatest. Magnum makes a good one. I heard Marineland Fx4 is also good.

thank you all for your input I believe will be getting a Fluval series 06 306

Although I usually recommend a sump for filtration, I realize there are times that there are reasons not to go that direction. When I do use canister filters I typically select one that is oversized for the tank. Additionally, I have had good luck with Penn Plax Cascade canister filters even though they are less expensive.

If you can’t use a sump, I found that a hang on the back filter such as aqua clear was much easier to use and clean then a canister filter.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
