So picked up a 90 gallon tank from buddy that worked at pet store... the filter is a Marineland.. CBW-1 bio wheel... I see these in pet stores every place as a commercial filter... so thoughts on using For reef tank and if you have used them any helpful tips would be awsome

Evening

Seems like everyone getting deals on equipment but me. Guess that’s why I haven’t won the lottery yet too :)

It may be overkill just a bit for a 90. Depending on how you set up the tank, usually a good portion of the bio load is handled on the hard surfaces. The BW,s I’ve seen usually run a bank of tanks that have limited in tank filtration and way heavier bioloads. Do you have the complete set up?

That said I like them, other than it can clog up if not cleaned if I remember correctly. But I would not use that for a 90. @vetteguy53081 is doing a huge build that it would roughly be rate for.

this unit is more geared for system (multi tank) support opposed to an individual tank. While tank would be spotless, it would struggle with nutrient export and good seeding of tank and bacteria
