fin rot? Cotton mouth?

What would you call this and how to treat it? I’m thinking cotton mouth., but I’m not sure . please help

Cottonmouth is a FW disease. Looks more like an injury to me. We need more detail. When did you get him.? Looks like this is a QT. What meds do you have in the QT Tank right now. Tank parameters and is he eating? Stuff like that. And if you can a couple of more pics that would help.

I’ve had him for about 4 days in QT. Only medication I’m using is API General Cure.
Ammonia-0
Temp- 79
Ph- 7.8 or 8
It’s a Qt tank so I don’t check any other parameters
Fish is a lyretail anthias male
I have 3 females in same tank and they are fine

This also looks like a strike injury to me - the fish may have gotten spooked and ran into something.

Is it still eating well? If so, I would just watch it for now. Trouble is, mouth injuries sometimes keep a fish from feeding normally….

Thanks , and as far as eating. I haven’t actually seen him eat.. but I do have him in QT with 3 females same species. And never seen them eat either. But they fat and healthy.

Since all four fish aren’t eating, you need to look into why. That needs to be fixed ASAP.

What foods have you tried on them?
What test are you using to measure ammonia?

I didn’t say they not eating , I just think my physical presence scary to them. And I’m feeding TDO Pellets mixed with frozen brine. All my test are measured by Hanna. Alk, mag, cal, ammonia, phos, nitrates.. all numbers are fine for QT

You said you haven’t SEEN them eat - you need to confirm that they are indeed eating. To do that, set your phone up to video the tank, gently add some food, then leave the room. Reviewing the video will confirm one way or another.

Peavy, Jay is absolutely correct, you must make sure your Anthias are eating. These are high energy fish and 5 days without eating is a major red flag. You could try Mysis or something small like Cyclops that floats around your QT Tank. Also, keep an eye out on your Ammonia.

Confirm salinity as I can tell with my anthias when Salinity has increased as they become sluggish with feeding and how are you testing water ?

Fish have an odd way to show a calorie deficit - they don't hold fat like mammals do. What they do is they utilize their livers as a food source when they are starving. The fish may show a minor sunken belly at that time, but overall, the fish won't really *look* thin until things have really gone downhill for a long time.

Ok thanks for that info..I found out way may be my problem.. heater failed.. smh. I was so focused on look of fish and didn’t notice my temp was at 68

I'll tag Jay, you may need to raise it slowly. If you have a small wattage heater that may already happen.
