So i have a buddy that is breaking down his tank and said I could have his fire urchin. My question is are they reef safe? And I know they are venomous are there any other issues with having them in my reef tank. I currently have a black spine urchin with no issue and would love to add this guy as well.
Not seeing much out there on them..
Thanks in advance

Asthenosoma varium: LiveAquaria considers them reef-safe (it's where I got mine via Diver's Den), and I pretty much concur. My main 180G set-up is mixed reef LPS and soft corals; no SPS and very very few zoas). Have never seen it bother (crawl over) any corals. Munches away at the caulerpa in my tank. Very pretty specimen.

Anytime I need to stick my hand in the tank, I definitely confirm his location first, lol. ;Shifty

HTH.

Those guys are idiots for doing that. But I bet they don't ask about who's got the worst sting for a while. Lol
We did watch all of the episodes on TV, very entertaining.
