Hello, I've had a few Firefish Gobies in the past, but I'm not expert, I do know they hide a lot. Introduced one into my tank yesterday, he spent the entire day swimming around with its dorsal fin up, looking very happy. Today, I noticed him just hanging out in a cave, I've seen him come out maybe twice today. I have a neon goby and pair of clowns, I haven't seen the clowns pick on the Firefish other than an occasional chase. Anything to worry about with the Firefish or just normal behavior?

I would not worry, just keep an eye on him.
Perhaps he found a spot he likes.
An occasional chase is normal.
It’s a timid fish in my thinking, and just may want some cover for now.
Clowns will protect their spot.
Fire fish will stay clear of that.

Thank you. Watching more, when he pops out, one of my clowns chases him back into his cave. I just fed them and he came out to eat. Any idea why one of my clowns chases him but has no issue with my neon cleaner goby?

Established Fire Fish can be territorial. Posturing can stress out a new Fire Fish.

Sees one as a threat and the other not?
Just a guess….social interactions can be complex.

Just keep watch, seems normal for a new addition.

As long as it eats and not being constantly charged, the give it some days…..in many cases, initial squabbles don’t last more than a few days.

When it settles, that heirarchy is in place.
