firmware update protocol

Is there a tried and true firmware update protocol for P4, powerbars, SA doser, KHD, Mitras? I assume you disconnect everything and update the P4 first then attach one peripheral device at a time and update those, then hook them all back up and reassign them ?? I often have trouble updating the WiFi firmware on my Mitras and wondered the best approach to get everything up to current standards successfully.

Mitras is another question but i think that USB and the WiFi firmware updating tool is the best way

I did exactly that one by one about a month ago. The Mitras were the first time and no issues.

My only problem is I have to use a specific computer to get the USB driver to work.
