Hey y’all! So I just recently got into the hobby and got a 100g tank with a 50g sump! DT foot print is 72” x 18” x 18”.

My best friend who I got the tank from has 10+ years in the hobby and helped me set it up and get it cycling! The stand and tank needed some general TLC. I didn’t have anything special in the sump at this time but one thing I did decide to run is a canister filter on top of that but don’t know the actual advantages I have from it yet. The tank was sitting for about half a year. About 3 weeks later multiple hundreds of dollars thrown at it (the girl wasn’t too happy about that ;)) and it’s looking amazing so far!

added a new power head and I actually just ordered a second koralia gen 3 and I’m going to use the older one as a mixing head for my saltwater mixing station that I will be putting together while I’m stuck at home. I’ve purchased a reef octopus 150int and a new heater ( the one my buddy gave me crapped the bed just last night) I also purchased a controller for it!

my next investment for the tank will be new lights! I’m looking at T5 led hybrids for my tank and just waiting to pull the trigger! I’m getting my first set of fish once my LFS can sell livestock again! If you guys have any advice on my first tank set up please let me know!

So I just was delivered the last pieces I needed to really start getting things into the tank and to maintain the tank the correct way!

I installed a 4 stage RO/DI system it a temporary spot until I get the back room set up for a permanent mixing station ( currently have a 32 gallon trash bin for mixing) I have also organized my sump area and added a heat controller! I might have to pick up a new one I’ve calibrated it twice and it’s still a whole 1 degree off of actual temp but my tank is reading 78.1 so I’m not to worried but will be buying a new controller in the near future.

my tank has been building up what I believe is diatom the past day and I have a small clean up crew on its way tomorrow to tackle that and it’s looking like I can get my fish on Friday! Very excited!

I have got my first set of inverts I got he tank and they seem to be loving it! My tank just got hit with a big diatom bloom but I’ve read it is normal for new tanks and signifies the tank is entering the maturity of the cycle? My snails and hermits and loving it and eating away!

my favorite snail I have put in the tank has a great personality and loves to say hi when My girlfriend or I come over to the tank. My girl named him magic (the magic conch shell... yes it’s after spongebob lol)
