First acro. Bleaching or paranoia?

I know they're sensitive little buggers. Some bleaching is probably expected from the stresses of shipping and moving tanks, no?

Seems like there's less color on the top. It's only been in there a few days though.

What are some things to look out for? Good and bad signs.

Saturday is my test day, but I check ALK every other day, because it's the least stable.

General readings are:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5-10
Cal: 410-420
ALK: 9.2-9.7
Mag: 1420
Sal: 1.025

Looks like RTN/STN even ALK burn.

I'm pretty sure that it's ALK burn. I've been carbon dosing and last checked nitrates at 0. So even at a very low dose, I don't have the bio load to make that necessary I guess.

Moving forward, do I really need to cut all of the bleached area off, or will it possibly come back as long as algae doesn't take over?

Bleached doesn't necessarily mean dead.....the coral tissue is still there. Move it down and give it time......if you do see algae growing, that means the tissue is dead and it can usually be fragged.

That coral is in pretty bad shape. Miracles do happen, so dont trash it though. What are your params?
