My girl is looking to get into photography and we're looking into cameras for her. Id like to get her something that I could take pictures of my tank/corals too. What features should I be looking for? Do I need a speical lends? SLR? Any opinions on Canon's Mark 2? All advice is appreciated..

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I just got a Canon Rebel T3i with the stock lens and I love it, but I plan on getting a Tamaron macro lens soon.

Wow the mark II 5d your talking about? If so that's one heck of a rig for a first time d slr. Like stated above its more the lens than the body for the most part. But once you know how to use the camera you can take nice pics with just about and lens. Which ever camera you get learn all the features, learn to use all its functions, not just the presets. If your going to use just those I would get a cheaper point and shoot. They do the same thing in that aspect.
