Hi all

My 30 gallon tank recently cycled. I transplanted live rock and some Xenia and GSP. For my first fish my LFS recommended a single clownfish and add slowly which made sense to me. But I’ve read about clownfish aggression. I’d like to add 1 or 2 fish in another week or so. Would a Royal Gramma or smaller Clown be appropriate. Would you recommend a larger fish or smaller? In my last tank my neon goby completely destroyed a small clownfish when I added it to my old tank. Want to avoid that again. Any recommendations? Thanks

With a 30g tank, stick to smaller fish. If you haven't already put 1 clownfish in the tank, consider doing a pair of young ones. They could/should become a mated pair.

Either get a clownfish significantly larger or smaller than your current clown to ease pairing. (im assuming you have a juvenile clown now?). And yeah a royal gramma would be fine to add as well!

Sooner the better as they quickly become territorial and a lone clown becomes dominant. Gramma may not be the best occupant who too is feisty but consider basslet such as diadema, twin spot blenny or cardinal as examples
