We finally decided to try a saltwater aquarium and picked up a 36 gallon tank.

The tank has live rock and sand, as well as a Fluval 407 canister.
I have also have a protein skimmer that I need to set up as soon as someone sells me a reasonably priced set of lights so I can take the top off :)
The current inhabitants are 3 hermit crabs and 2 snowflake clownfish.
Fortunately ammonium and nitrite have remained at 0 so far.

Up next is:
  • Getting some lights
  • Setting up protein skimmer
  • Building a mesh lid
  • Adding some zoas
  • etc. etc.

Welcome to R2R! I recently started a very similar setup. Going through the cycle right now, feel free to check it out and offer any advice as this is my first saltwater tank. I know theres a few other reefers on here working on similar builds so it will be fun to see what we can all come up with.

3rd guy with the same tank and somewhat similar set up checking in! Follow along if you like! @rmcrom ’s build had me on Amazon ordering a skimmer the next day lol. Still waiting on that to show up. I’m currently rocking a single aiprime16hd (will eventually be two primes. I do have a torch coral from a tank I broke down, still going through ugly diatom stage at the moment though. This tank will be a primarily anemone set up once stable. (Already have a baby ultra in my home tank being grown out a bit while this tank stabilizes). Love your background and scape by the way! Looks very very nice! What bacteria did you start cycle with?

Great build! Welcome!
I have that exact 36 gallon tank for freshwater, and I’ve always wondered how it’d look as saltwater—Clearly amazing! ;)
