Welcome! I have a 30L Innovative Marine and the fluval 13.5, too! I have a protein skimmer on mine, just because I have a clownfish as well. And I added another powerhead, too, because I wasn’t sure if the stock pump would give enough flow.

An ATO because the water from these smaller tanks evaporates QUICK!

but I don’t plan on upgrading the light. I saw someone here did a PAR test, and apparently it’s not too bad!

Awesome. I have a power head coming for mine aswell. I’m trying to figure out if I’m going to keep my skimmer on or not. I blocked the inlet hole on the side wall so my snails wouldn’t get sucked up in it. Now the skimmer doesn’t work to good because all the flow is coming in at the over flow messing with the skimmer.

Added a midnight clown. And a clean up crew to hopefully deal with some of the algae on my rocks.

I thought my protein skimmer would be overkill since I just have the one fish. But I noticed today it’s pulling out some gross stuff, and it’s been a little over a week since it’s been running!

I used to have the 5 gallon version of this tank a few years ago and did nothing but small water changes once a week. And it THRIVED. I think you’ll be good without one! ;)

Yeah I noticed a lot of people taking the skimmer off these small tanks. And doing just fine.
