Hi fam,

i've got a waterbox 20 gallon going on to month 9.
I just did a fauna marin icp and it was pretty straight forward and their recommendations are helpful.
i'm just trying to figure out how my tanks iron got so high. I dose brightwell code a & b, mostly b cause calcium is usually where i need it.
also Aluminium is looking very high, not sure why.
I see i need to dose iodine and mangenese which ill add asap.
some other trace elements look low, would a big water change help that?

Thanks for any input.

Iron is not a concern at that level. Some supplement companies advise far more.

Why do you think manganese is low?

I do not know if iodine will be useful to supplement, but it's not a hard experiment to try and see if anything apparently improves.

This type of ICP cannot readily detect many trace elements at natural levels, so judging them if none is detected is not possible. ICP-MS is needed for the low level trace elements to be adequately measured.

Aluminum usually comes from white media of various sorts. Do you have any?

I'm not sure about the manganese, i do have a good amount of hammers and torches in the tank now.

i see, ill have to get one of the more expensive tests so i get more details.

I do have some man made rock in the overflow area from when i first cycled the tank, i can try pulling that out. Other than that i just have filter floss and a carbon bag. I used caribsea aragonite sand and their liverock for the scape.

Got it, i'll keep an eye on it.
for the trace elements they recommended dosing, would a bigger water change help replenish them?

Not really. Some are depleted quite fast, such as manganese and iodine. I’d suggest a supplement such as Tropic Marin A and K.
