I found this video touching on fish hearing and vocalization and thought it was pretty neat! I’ve never seen any talk of the noises they can make. Makes you think about how much the noise pollution in a home aquarium can add to stress.

It's funny I always felt like sounds of pumps and vibrations when they start to get dirty can stress fish out. I always felt like if I can feel a vibration or hear a pump it can only be amplified in the water since sound moves better through water.

My bangii cardinal will make clapping/clicking sounds. It took me a while to figure out who was doing it.
OH WAIT!!! So that’s what it is!!! I’ve heard a clicking noise from my main display tank which has an adult female Banggai cardinalfish (yes I’m planning on getting her a mate, my local reef shop usually gets young Banggais unfortunately). I don’t have a pistol shrimp in this tank (or anywhere) and while I do have a mantis shrimp in a different tank, it’s in a different room, I know the sound is coming from here. Very interesting!

We often play Elvis music for our tank, even when we leave the house. It seems to help with reducing fish stress, but we have no way of proving it. They definitely notice when I sing near the tank.

I'm eagerly awaiting your research paper. 😁
