This came in as a male pink square anthias however I've never seen one quite like this.

I'm no expert, but it looks like a squareback with some type of infection to me.

Looks like severe ammonia burn.

Mind you i have only seen this with goldfish in bowls.

Yes, unless they can be morphed/bred like the designer Clowns done at the University of Maine or at ORA.

The black is very curious. I've never seen hybrid anthias nor do I know any with black. The orange stripes on its head look to just be typical stress coloration.

@eatbreakfast

Agreed, the striping on the anterior is normal stress patterning.

I haven't seen black on the caudal like thar before, but it doesn't look worrisome to me.

Couldn't think of the wording but asked someone and they said likely an aberrant. Very cool. Can you post a video or more pictures?

I think it's a form of hypermelanism. It's present in examples of almost all living things but in small numbers, i.e. much less common than albinism. Call it a Koi Anthias and sell it for big bucks!:D

Ahh what a bummer. Sorry to hear that. Started all my anthias on different R.O.E. depending on their size and have had pretty good success.
