Excuse my dirty glass! Had to feed to get the fish out so thats the stuff in the water. Before anyone asks 😂😂

This poor damsel was free, the store was hoping that would help get him a home. So of course me being me and loving rescue fish I took him. The store didnt know what kind of damsel he is. He is yellowish on the spines and face then fades to a silver. Anyone know what he is? Im stumped, been looking at yellow damsels all day and cant find a match.

Looks like Amblyglyphidodon Aureus to me! There are a few species in the genus that look similar so could be any of those.

Ah cool! This one has more silver on it than mine but yes thats what it is! All the pictures I was seeing of that fish were a lot more yellow and bright! Do they become more silvery when they are mature? This guy is about 2 inches

From most pics I’ve seen online the adults are more yellow than silver. The silver seems to be a more juvenile characteristic, but I don’t have any firsthand experience with the fish so will let anybody that does chime in!

I agree with others on ID. I had one of these guys for many, many years after being passed along to me for free from another reefer. I recently took mine to the LFS to rehome because he was trying to fight and kill my new harlequin tusk that was larger than him. The damsel was easily 4-5," and was generally peaceful until the tusk. I tried putting the damsel in timeout for several weeks, and every single time the tusk would swim by the holding box, the damsel would go absolutely BANANAS—didn't so much as bat a fin at any other tankmate. I'm not sure what his issue with the tusk was, but after it was clear the damsel would never relent on the harassment, I had to make the hard decision to rehome him. Again, I had him for a very long time, and he never reacted to any other fish with the same level of bloodthirsty aggression. I felt guilty banishing him, but I wanted the tusk. We called ours "Ducklips" because of the yellow lips. Haha

Ah! Did yours get more yellow?? I kinda thought by his size he was full grown, but then again I recently got a free 6 inch velvet damsel ans had no clue they got that big!! My tank is full of fish that can hold their own 😂 this one seems chill though. My velvet is really chill. The only damsel thats a nightmare is my 3 stripe. The smallest fish in my tank 😂 that dude has issues. Named Stripe after the gremlin 😂😂

That's so crazy, I literally just took my massive velvet damsel to the LFS to rehome today too! 😂 🥹 What are the odds?! I loved him, affectionately named him Lucifer. I finally made the decision it was time for him to go after he wouldn't stop tail smacking a new cowfish. He generally wasn't too rude, but because he's so big, any aggression is overwhelming for smaller fish. Caught him first try—he didn't know what hit him when that net hit the water. 😂
I used to only keep big, gnarly, bad attitude, fish, but have been venturing away from the damsel squad recently. I also got the velvet free when he was about the size of a silver dollar for being "too mean," and I loved him for over 8 years and watched him grow into a monster damsel. Haha
The LFS owner said he services tanks for people that have big meanies, so I hope he goes to a good home.

My golden damsel didn't get much more yellow with age. He had a mostly silver body with the bright yellow lips, fins, and the yellow along the back. When I got him, I actually got two, but rehomed his "buddy" when I picked them up because I didn't think two would do well together longterm. I remember the other fish being bigger and more drab than mine, but the one I kept never had his colors dull or fade.

Interesting! And yeah the velvet is huge. I honestly thought it was a cichlid at first glance!! I was like did someone put a cichlid in a saltwater tank on accident?? 😂 then I realized what he was looking at him. He spiked and ripped 3 bags in the store. I named him Spike 😂 I was like this fish is gonna be a nightmare. But put him in the tank he was as chill as can be. Same with this new one, super chill. It likes to float around in the water column

They do resemble cichlids! They get so fat, and love eating everything like oscars. 😂
Aw, Spike! I hope they both stay chill and you get many years of enjoyment out of them. Honestly, with other damsels, I felt they were both mild mannered as far as damsels go.

Lol yeah I had no idea how big they got! He is kinda cute! His little mouth sticking out of his arch is always adorable. The new one seems chill too! Its just Stripe my other one thats a menace. He has always been nasty, but he is the smallest fish so he gets put in his place all the time and never learns 😂
