I am just looking for some ideas on stocking a 40 breeder with fish that would work with sps corals in the tank. I would like a blue tang, but I am not sure if i could with this tank size even if I have tons of flow.

Other than a tang I am kinda open. I don't know what I really want for fish in the tank.

Tank will have sump larger than the tank with a big enough skimmer for an even larger tanks, so a fish requiring very good water quality shouldn't be a problem.

Most tangs will be a no if not all of them. How much are you looking to spend plays a big part aswell my newest fish is a candy basslet which IMO is the brightest fish I have ever seen. My advice would be go online to live aquaria and look at all there fish they are filed into spices with a recommended tank size.

You should try to find the root of the problem, but a small rabbitfish would work well especially if you only keep sps.

haven't started tank yet. I'm just thinking about what to stock it with on fish. I'm only going to do sps coral though.

Assessors are great fish that stay small and are peaceful. ORA is breeding yellow ones which are very robust. My personal favs are fairy wrasse and blue spotted jawfish. I can't have either of these in my tank (open top). Le sigh.

My current stocking in my 63 gal. sumpless mixed reef: pair of true percs, blue assessor. I plan on adding a blue mandarin goby and maybe a trio of watei anthias over time, and may let go of the percs for bioload reduction.
