Fish is splasing water constantly

Ya, we are bringing this one back to life. My exquisite started doing this about a month ago. Had him for a year. No females. He actually “surfs” the surface. You can hear him popping in and out of water. Fortunately, he does not splash a lot out, so doesn’t bother me. I believe it may be feeding related as to get my attention when near tank.
