Hey all,
My clownfish just passed from intestinal worms and I am curious as to how long the parasite is "active" in the aquarium. How long should I wait to get new fish?
Thanks

if you are sure the fish died of internal parasites, then you should be able to introduce fish soon after. It’s not that common however for an internal parasite to kill a fish - some exceptions - but I would rule out other causes first unless you are able to perform a necropsy.

Internal parasites are usually transmitted via ingestion of cysts which are excreted by infected fish via feces. A cyst can often survive for long periods but unless it’s a heavily infested and overstocked tank the risk is somewhat low unless the infection occurs over time and soon after a cyst is released.
