Fish wish list

I learned the other day that one of my fish on my list (longnose hawkfish) will attack and smash my shrimp on rocks. As long as I have shrimp, the longnose hawkfish will no longer be on my wish list. I'm disappointed by this, as I was looking forward to having one.
I have a 45 gallon aquarium.
I have a baby clownfish, lawnmower blenny and a firefish, peppermint shrimp and a cleaner shrimp and 2 snails.

What other fish can I add? I'd love a mandarin goby some day.

Is my aquarium too small for a dwarf angel? I was thinking maybe a lemon peel angel or other dwarf angel.

What about a six line wrasse or maybe a royal gramma?

I'm pondering a watchman goby. I'd like something with brilliant colors.

Ya continue to do some research - dont sweat the tank size just yet, most juvenile fish are fine for a bit until they grow then you can trade them for something else. The only thing that i'd say is stay away from angelfish unless you plan to have no corals, or plan to get deep water angelfish such as bellus or swallowtails, etc. Basically anything pretty and bright will eat your stuff. Also think of fish that will do work in your tank, a sixline is a good idea, keeps pests at bay along with other wrasses in that family, but sometimes a mean fish. Something like a tomini/kole tang or yellow tang. Rabbit fish are good as well (potential coral nipping) but never seen in my systems.

All of these will be fine in a 45 gallon, of course a mandarin comes with its own challenges and a dwarf angle may nip coral. But space wise all of these fish will be ok.

I'm researching what fish I'd like. Right now, everyone is living in harmony, other than the shrimp. The skunk cleaner is a huge jerk to the peppermint shrimp.

All good bro - i put smaller tangs in my 25g's to put in the work then move them or trade them when they get bigger. I have a love for the deep water angels, obviously not as colorful, but love the bellus male/female pair, japanese masks, etc. You dont see them in tanks much.

I've heard that geometric pygmy hawkfish are less likely to be a problem but haven't tried one,,, so just a thought.

Long nose hawkfish are my second favorite behind yellow or purple tangs. I just can't justify the expense of a yellow tang to myself right now. Some day perhaps.

Even through it's not a yellow tang, convict tangs do work well in smaller tanks.

I planned on adding cleaner shrimps but honestly, I'd hold off on them and get the flame hawkfish instead. Love their personality and I think the red would give a huge pop to the tank.

Do you plan to try one for future tank setups without those inverts?

Yes. When my shrimp die I'll get a longnose hawkfish.
