Fishes for 15g cube

I was told by some people that fishes will outgrow the 15g tank... i thought like firefish and royal gramma or dottyback ...other option a pair of clowns ..but told me it will outgrow the tank

Can only pick gobies and blennies

Is this true?

Main issue with clowns is how mean they are - it will make life hard for any other fish in the tank.
Dotty can be mean, but a gramma would do well. Firefish is a great option.

No I meant a pair of clowns by itself as another fish stocking situation ...not additional to other fishes

I wouldn’t do the pair of clowns as they may stress out in the smaller tank as they age (I’ve seen some giant Occelaris clowns… had to be 5 inches atleast).

There are small fish out there, you just have to look. Here’s a small list;
- Trimma tevegae
- Trimma caudomaculatum
- Trimma striatum
- Trimma cana
- Eviota atriventris
- Eviota brahmi
- Eviota sebreei
- Eviota bifasciata
- Ecsenius bandanus
- Ecsenius bimaculatus
- Pseudocheilinops ataenia

- Wetmorella albofasciata

A bit surprised.... seen quite alot of people with the classic fluval 13.5g have a pair of clowns or royal gramma/firefish

Clowns are definitely common in smaller tanks, it works out a lot. My own personal experience is that it’s not a good idea though.

i got this response from a clownfish breeder when looking at minimum tank size for breeding. I would think a 15 gallon would work fine, but again this is minimum. Not the best for older clowns as some just get huge for no reason. I have seen some of those 4-5 inch perculas and ocellaris as well and they are tanks. My clowns also never really leave their anemone so i dont find they need too much space in general

I have 2 breeding pairs of occy. But I work for the largest clownfish breeder in the country. Just look at the dimensions of a 10 gallon tank for minimum size for small species and a 20 tall (roughly) for larger species

The Trimma & Eviota Gobies have an interesting swimming pattern of just hovering (and even sometimes swimming) vertically. This was my old pair of Trimma tevegae they really were a vibrant orange, never seen Trimmas like them before.

Also check out those wrasses I mentioned. These are incredibly unusual due to the size of them compared to other wrasses but also their curiosity. Here’s two of my juvenile pinkies out of my trio.

And when you get them I personally find getting them smaller and with a slightly more washed out colour tend to give you a longer life span. Here’s what I brought my pinkies as on the 1st of September this year.

I've tried pairing standard occelaris in this tank and just can't. I've bought 4 total, 3 have died within 48 hours of being paired. I don't know if it's just bad luck or if Clowns are really just that mean in such a small tank.

I have a 12 gallon with a Tailspot Blenny, Clown Goby, and Wheeler's Shrimp Goby. I like them all, but the clown goby might be my favorite.

I think a Royal Gramma would work in a tank that size. I've heard dottybacks are monsters, even more so than clowns, but I've never actually kept one. Clowns can be hit or miss. Some people keep them in that sized tank with no problems, but others have problems.

You should look at those wrasses, they're quite cool. I considered a Possum wrasse for my tank, but they slightly too expensive and IMO too large. Online sources say that they get ~3 inches, but I swear the one I saw at my LFS was closer to 4 inches.

A Geometric Pygmy Hawk could work too. I don't know that much about their behavior except that they're small enough to fit in the tank you have.

these are just ocellaris clowns with a fancy name to match the pattern on them, most should stay small but can grow larger as said. Though, it would take years to get much bigger than 3 inches

The Wetmorella & Pseudocheilinops species don’t get much over 2 inches (Albofasciata can get larger, towards 3 inches). Are you sure the specimen you saw was 100% one of the “Pygmy” Wrasses and not a “Dwarf Parrot”?
