Picking up a new monster setup in the next few weeks! Upgrading my 240g to a 900g display. Local hobbyist is getting out of the hobby after more than 15 years, and hooked me up with the tank, all the equipment, and the fish!
I removed all the artificial rock inserts today with the help of my wife, a good friend of mine who is also in the hobby, and my father, and caught and transferred all the fish home! Fish from the display are currently split between a few different 150g stock tanks, my 240g display, and a 125g.
I'll be going back over in the next couple weeks to move the rest of the equipment, including a couple hundred gallon sump, the 6' bioreactor, the 5' skimmer, all the lighting and pumps, the 6' uv sterilizer, and all the other odds, including the tank itself. I'll be building a new stand for the tank, to get it closer to the floor, so I have room for access up above the tank. Sump etc will be on the opposite side of the wall inside a closet, plumbed through for ease of maintenance and to keep the equipment out of my living room.
The goal here is that my 240g aquarium will end up being torn down, and that all the fish will be moving into this 900g tank.
Tank dimensions are 120"x36"x48" (LxWxH). This presents unique challenges in both the weight of the tank (very thick acrylic) and the height as far as cleaning the tank or doing anything else inside it. It should make a fantastic display for the larger angels etc, with the planktivores (wrasses, chromis, anthias, and others) shoaling up above the reef.
