And so it begins. I started reefing in November of 2019 with zero knowledge of the hobby with the exception that the fish look cool. 14 months later I have a 125 gallon reef tank in my kitchen filling with coral fast. So with a lot of hard work (and a little help from an inheritance from my grandfather) we are buying our first home. It met every requirement including about 180 sq ft of heaven i get to turn into a fish room. So I thpught the best ,and possibly coolest, ways to document it was to do a build thread. Fairly new to R2R (posting threads anyways) so if this is posted in the wrong spot hopefully someone will fill me in. I am going to need a lot of guidance from people who have done this before and welcome and encourage ideas to make it more functional maintenance easier (so I actually do it). This leads me to my first question. The room need to be framed in and finished. Should i use dry wall?? Surely there is a better way to start than that.

I used 5/8 OSB painted with killz2 primer then 2 coats of a good interior latex paint for bathrooms. This was 3 years ago when it was $18 a sheet

I moved a couple months ago, and the last thing out of that house was the torn down fishroom. I spent 2 days carefully cutting out and recovering all the materials to reuse in my new fishroom- what cost $400 three years ago would have cost me $1500. For 2 days and a truck rental, I saved all that and just got started building my new fishroom and have spent $8 on a couple paint rollers.

ceiling was green board drywall with the same paint treatment.
