So, got a text from my dealer this morning, letting me know he had this bad boy in the store...

A little bigger than I would normally go for at 4.5”, but he offered it at the cheaper price because I’d expressed interest in a small/ medium. So I went by there today during some errands and put her on hold until Friday. I have a busy couple days ahead and my copper QT needs cleaned out after my Onyx Picasso’s graduated out of it on Monday.

While looking around, my three month old seemed transfixed by one tank in particular... imagine my surprise when I saw 3 x 2” Randall’s gobies. They came in on Thursday of last week. I’d asked my guy about them about 2 months ago and it slipped his mind that I’d asked.

So here’s my current dilemma- can I QT a 4.5” mag foxface and a 2” goby in a 10g QT system, 17 days in copper, then 2 more weeks for observation/ meds as needed? I have 2x 10g available, as well as hob’s abs cycled filters etc. just worried about swimming space.

My opinion only as I am no expert. I think as long as water conditions are great, you’re okay for a few days. The way I see it, your 10 gallon is probably a lot better then the cube she’s currently in. My entire live stock is in a 40b right now. Do I feel bad? Absolutely! But they get water changes every 4-7 days, no chance of catching a parasite and get fed all sorts of goodies. Plus in 7-10 days, they’ll be discovering an 8’ tank so I don’t feel too bad.

It’s the few days part that is causing me issues- it’ll be a month. I might go clean out some totes I have that are around the 20g size and use them. Just don’t have budget for 2 x20 longs now that the $/g is off and I decided to use my spare as an ATO container...

My lfs has 20longs for all his holding tanks, so it would be a downgrade to the 10g.

Lookie lookie...

Currently doing a Ruby Reef Rally dip, then into 1.04ppm copper (I know, it’s supposed to be 1.00, I’ll do better next time...)

My previous concern regarding the 10g QT vs the size of Michael J. have been alleviated a little. He wasn’t quite as big as we estimated in the store

He is the best looking one I’ve seen in s while, in 4-5 different LFS. Really looking forward to him coloring up and getting some vibrancy in those reds and yellows

Pink coralline or cyano?

I’m thinking coralline

This is on a chunk of brs reefsaver, so it’s not reawakened spores on the rock. Only things in thevtank so far are the urchins from petco- May it canebin in them?

QT update-

Toby the goby has a little wedge nipped out of his dorsal fin... kinda bummed but I *think* it’ll grow back? Maybe?

Haven’t seen any overt aggression, and if hoped they’d play nice with such a size difference. Any more damage and I’ll need to move him to his own, or make a partition

Copper levels- Copper power measured with Hanna Checker.

Started at 1.00 ppm on Friday. Dosing up to 1.75 by end of Monday. That’s 0.75 ppm in 6 (am/pm) doses. 0.125ppm/dose. That equates to 0.63ml per dose due my 9 gallon QT volume.

After the 4th ramping dose-

Expected ppm = 1.5
actual ppm = 1.48

Michael J changes colors while he sleeps. This morning, he was jet black with thin white stripes. And s couple grey blotches on his belly. I slowly ramped up the lights over 30 minutes (turned on lights in adjoining unfinished basement sections) and he got his day colours back by feeding time. So cool.

So, michael j foxface is a big jerk. At some point between 8 am and now, he attacked Toby and had completely bitten off the entire dorsal fin.

Toby is looking a bit freaked, so I need to go to Lowe’s and get some eggcrate to make a divider. Hope the little dude recovers...

Any idea if a dorsal fin will grow back? Or is he scarred for life?

If I’d realized he’d be so aggressive to the little guy, I’d have held off getting Toby at the same time.

I feel really crappy that the little dude is having such a bad time

So true. Glad you separated them so fast. How is the little guy eating?

He isn’t [emoji45]

Super fine chopped mysis with selcon was refused, as were x-small pellets. Both things he would normally take.

Actually didn’t even flinch when a piece of mysis literally hit him in the face. He’s breathing, but hasn’t moved out the same spot in 3.5 hours.

MJF devoured everything I put in his side. Marine feast was like manna. I thought those guys were herbivores... maybe he got a taste for meat

I think they are omnivores but grazers. Grazers eat a lot of greens and ingest all other stuff snatched up just like land herbivores. Makes sense to me. I sure hope he eats for you. Hopefully in a day or two, he will eat. Any medications in the water yet?

They are at 1.78ppm copper power, day 2 of therapeutic. In 1.00 on Friday, with 0.25 ppm ramp/day until Monday.

They both had a ruby reef rally dip for 90 mins when they got home, and I’ll be doing 2x GC once out of copper in 11 days. I’ll be feeding food + focus + metroplex after copper too.

Sounds like a solid plan. You can alway scale back the copper if he won’t eat.
