When I purchased my flame angel and frogspawn from a new (to me) LFS in my town they said to just keep an eye on him. Went to my normal LFS today and they cringed when i told them i had gotten a flame angel. they said that they have only heard if maybe 2 people to have successful reefs with a flame angel in them. So far he hasn't shown any interest I my zoa frag, frogspawn or button polyps. What are your experiences? I don't want to get rid of him but I will if I have to. What would you do?

Lol id say the lfs you go to usually must not know a lot about reefing. Yes it is a dwarf angel and still should be handled "with caution" as live aquarias words, they are a perfect angel for a reef tank. I have herd of maybe one account where one picked at zoas but I can tell you I have had 3 and not once have I lost, or had a damaged coral due to a flame picking. They can although, be a little territorial and aggressive

I have always had flame angels as a part on my reef tanks and never had any issue..... U will be fine. Still keep an eye bc every fish can be different in temperament but I think it won't be an issue

Don't do it! Mine loves soft corals. If I keep him well fed he doesn't pick as bad.

It's always risky putting any kind of angel in a reef tank. I had luck with with one not nipping at corals, but am scared to do it again.

any angel is gonna be iffy in a reef tank but I've never had any issues with my flame angel...in my opinion, if you keep him fed good, he ain't gonna cause you any issues, but you're taking a chance none the less

Our first Flame Angel (with us for 7 years) nipped at SPS, but never did any real damage. We added a young male Flame Angel to our 300g reef last year and he started nipping the moment he was added, LOL. Again, no real damage.

I have a reef with all types of coral and a clam. The Flame Angel is a perfect citizen. They are very active fish, never stop; I think the trick is to have plenty of "bugs" to keep them occupied.

I will never ever put an angel in a tank I plan to put coral in again...destroyed coral colonies and was a major PIA to get out.

Never had an issue with mine. Model citizen. Actually when I made the mistake of adding a raccoon butterfly that nipped at my palys. In the process of catching it my flame made it easier to catch him. The butterfly kept trying to hide in some rock work and the flame kept chasing it out and almost stunning it which is when I swooped in and caught it. So in my experience my flame saved my palys and now they are doin great

how large is your tank!? From a lot that ive read its "boredom syndrome" kindve like us humans when we get bored sometimes we eat. i think the same thing happens with fish especially angels, all the horror stories ive heard were more centered around an angel in a smaller 55 or less tank while the perfect citizens are in a hundred gallons or larger with many tank mates. idk just my .02

how established is it? do you have a quarantine tank maybe place the angel in there along with a xenia or zoa and see if you notice any nipping?

It's been up for about 8 and a half months. The angel has been in the tank since the 8th of this month and hasn't shown any interest at all in any of my 3 corals.
